Invest in lung health for all
Our analysis found that many areas where people experience poor lung health are also areas where people experience higher levels of deprivation. For example, people in Blackpool experience death rates from lung conditions over two times higher than more affluent areas such as the London Borough of Richmond.
The government recently announced it would be scrapping its health inequalities white paper. However, it is clear this unfair situation must be addressed.
Despite the tireless work of NHS doctors and nurses across the whole of the UK, basic levels of care for people with lung conditions also remain inconsistent.
Currently, in the UK lung conditions are the third biggest killer yet they only receive 2% of public investment into research. It is time to increase funding for research and innovation into lung conditions that could save and transform millions of lives.
Our right to breathe
Everyone with a lung condition across the UK should have access to early diagnosis, support and information.
No one should have to experience unacceptably high rates of air pollution which can lead to lung conditions developing and worsening.
