Today (14th August), the Department of Health and Social Care published a report ahead of the government's major conditions strategy, outlining how to tackle the groups of conditions, including respiratory diseases that drive ill health in England.
Sarah MacFadyen, Head of Policy at Asthma + Lung UK, said: "Lung disease is the UK's third biggest killer. We know that too many people with lung conditions, especially those experiencing higher levels of deprivation, are waiting far too long for the diagnosis and support that they need. Struggling to breathe is terrifying and no one should be left fighting for breath.
“When it comes to lung health, the government must act urgently to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of lung conditions. The Major Conditions Strategy, which will look at primary prevention and boosting early diagnosis and treatment in the community, is a key way to achieve this. We look forward to working with the government to shape this strategy, making sure people with lung conditions get the support they deserve, to have good lung health and breathe freely.”
