Having a lung condition during winter is like having a full-time job. The cold weather and viruses have a massive effect on my health and leave me struggling to breathe.
If you have a lung condition – like asthma, COPD or bronchiectasis – your risk of ending up in A&E doubles in winter. This is because things like cold weather, colds and viruses, and damp and mould could all make your symptoms worse – and make it harder for you to breathe.
Whenever I get unwell, I always get scared that this will be the time when I won’t recover. Last winter was particularly bad as I find that once I’ve caught a cold, it goes straight to my chest.
