Be a lifesaver this Christmas

Help people stay safe

This winter, people living with lung conditions are twice as likely to end up in A&E.
Cold air, seasonal viruses, and indoor pollutants turn daily life into a battle for breath. This Christmas, be a lifesaver and give the gift of breath to those who are struggling to breathe.

We are committed to supporting those who struggle to breathe through our Helpline. Our incredible helpline nurses work tirelessly to be there for as many people as possible, giving life-saving support when it’s most needed.

I dread to think what could have happened if we hadn’t been able to take that call

"Recently I answered a call from a mum who was at the end of her tether.  Her young child had been in and out of hospital with breathing problems and she didn't know what to do.  During our call, I could hear the little boy coughing in the background.  I knew he was really unwell.

Suddenly, I heard that his breathing had become much more noisy and laboured.  My gut tightened.  I told his mum to call an ambulance right away and asked her to call us back when he was better to discuss long-term care.

A few days later, she called back.  She said that they were rushed to A&E, but as soon as they arrived, her son collapsed and went blue.  I can't imagine how scared she must have been.

Luckily, medics were on hand to treat him.  After what must have been a terrifying few hours., his breathing eventually returned to normal.  As we'd already discussed the dose of medication her little boy needed, she was able to make sure he got the right treatment to get better.

I was so relieved to find out that this little boy was okay - but I dread to think what could have happened if we hadn't been able to take his mum's call, or if he'd gone to hospital any later.

Our small team is always busy, but we want to answer every person who needs us.  We know how much of a difference we can make.  With your gift, you're helping us to be here for more people living with breathing problems.

I hope this one call shows how much you can help transform - and even save - the lives of people struggling to breathe."

The heartbreaking reality

Last winter, 1 in 8 emergency admissions to A&E were patients fighting for breath.

Families will spend Christmas torn apart, facing the agony of a loved one in crisis. As you prepare for the festivities, remember those who may be facing fear  and isolation.

Our team is ready

Our friendly Helpline nurses are working tirelessly, offering help and advice to thousands of people facing a range of issues this Christmas. From those who can’t afford their heating bill but know the cold air in their homes could leave them unable to breathe, to others, trapped in their homes because they know how life-threatening the cold and seasonal viruses outside can be.

Our Helpline team is ready to help anyone living in fear with their lung condition. But we couldn’t support anyone if it wasn’t for your generosity.
