Raffle

Whether you’re organising a charity ball or a bake sale, raffles are a fantastic way to boost your fundraising total!

Raffles are a great way to raise money – people always love them! You could hold the raffle as part of a bigger event, like a quiz night or ball.

Due to the laws surrounding raffles and lotteries, there are a few simple guidelines you need to meet, simply follow our checklist below to ensure you’re keeping it legal. We’d recommend taking a quick look at the legal requirements for raffles and competitions. Just visit the Gambling Commission website.

Find your prizes

Ask local businesses, friends and family if they’d be willing to donate items to the raffle. Before approaching local businesses, you’ll need a letter of authority from us to confirm that you’re fundraising for a charity - just pop us an email and we’ll write one for you. Local attractions, restaurant vouchers, hairdressers, are all great prizes! Remember, you cannot roll over any prizes you advertised for your raffle to another one.

Keep an eye on costs

You must spend less than £100 of the proceeds organising the raffle, and less than £500 on prizes (that’s why it’s best to ask for donations).

Sell your tickets

Tickets must be sold at the same price to everybody and must be sold only at the event, and the prize draw must take place at the event too. Before the event, you can let everyone know about the amazing prizes they could win taking part in your raffle at your event, so they come prepared to with the cash for their tickets!

Crown the winners

Pick the winning raffle tickets out of a hat or a bag at the end of a night and call out the numbers, then hand out the prizes to the winners.
