Leaving a gift in your will: Frequently asked questions

Get answers to your questions about leaving a gift in your will, including why and how to leave a gift, and how we can help guide you through the process.

How will leaving a gift in my will help people with lung conditions?

With a gift in your will, you can help us bring together the greatest minds in lung research. To improve treatments, diagnosis, and support- and improve lives as a result.

One third of our work is funded through gifts in wills, so they are absolutely vital to our fight for everyone’s right to breathe. Together, we’ll continue that fight and win.

What kind of gift can I leave?

There are three types of gifts you can leave in a will:

  1. A percentage of your estate. Your estate is made up of everything you own. The gift we receive will be calculated from that, after other gifts in your will have been given out. Lots of our supporters prefer to give in this way because it ensures that we only receive a gift once your loved ones have been taken care of.
  2. A set amount of cash. We receive gifts of £100 and £100,000. Each and every gift makes a huge difference to people living with lung conditions.
  3. A specific gift. This could be anything from jewellery to stocks and shares.

Anyone can leave a gift of any size, and we’re hugely grateful for every gift we receive.

How do I leave a gift in my will to Asthma + Lung UK?

If you don’t already have a will, we highly recommend working with a solicitor or will writer to create one. With their help, you’ll be able to create a will that accurately reflects your wishes and remembers the people and causes that are most important to you.

Updating an existing will is simple. Again, we recommend you work with a solicitor or will writer to do this.

We can put you in touch with a solicitor through our free will writing services.

What if I change my mind or my circumstances change?

We completely understand that your situation might change. If you need to remove the gift from your will, we recommend visiting a solicitor or will writer to update it.
