What’s happening in the UPTURN study at the moment?
In the first step of the study we are co-designing the support package and carrying out a small study to check how it works. This part of the study will run until the end of 2025.
For the intervention co-design our aims are to:
- Co-design an intervention to encourage all eligible people with COPD to attend PR assessment
- Underpin the intervention design with a robust theory of change
- Include cultural adaptations to support engagement from people from ethnic minority communities facing inequities
To help address health inequalities, we are working closely with people with COPD from Bangladeshi, Black African and Black Caribbean communities, to understand their particular barriers to engaging with PR. This will help us tailor the UPTURN intervention to their needs. We are also involving healthcare professionals and other stakeholders involved in providing and referring people with COPD to PR.
Ways to get involved
There are opportunities for anyone living with COPD to get involved with different stages of the study, so if you are interested in being involved, please contact us and we can discuss how you can participate at the study progresses. We are also seeking to involve healthcare professionals referring patients to PR and delivering it (e.g. Specialist nurses, GPs, physiotherapists, PR providers, NHS commissioners).
